Gameplay of boardgame Weimar: The Fight for Democracy by Mathisa Cramer.Political CDG on the interwar German Weimar Republic. It's kind of COIN with a bit of Churchill and Hegemony. 4 political parties, two of them systemic (Zentrum and S.P.D.) and two against the system (Communists and DNVP). The systemic parties are trying to keep the republic going, but are fighting poverty, hyperinflation and foreign reparations. The other two parties can win if they set up 4 councils or regimes in cities. There's a balancing act of having party cells and troops on the streets vs. warm seats in parliament vs. tug of war over issues Churchill style. In the first round, the communists managed to set up another council in Berlin, which brought them dangerously close to victory. In the second round, I backed them for the Zentrum using the police, and together with the coalition S.P.D. I got a very large lead in points, e.g. for dealing with foreign affairs and from several Reichstag elections. In the third round the DNVP took over the government with several military units and established the first regime despite opposition. And they have about 12 bases in the cities. My Zentrum has a chancellor, but no one in the city anymore, but a majority in parliament. Even the Communists have come out of their dens and are spreading. And around the corner, the first of the NSDAP brown shirts are peeking out, and they may cause everyone to lose. We played 3 rounds out of 6. Second part will be recorded later.
