Patna bettiah expressway update The new highway connecting Patna to Vaishali is the Patna–Bettiah Expressway (NH-139W), a 4-lane greenfield corridor that reduces travel time between Patna and Vaishali to just 30–40 minutes.Project OverviewRoute: The highway starts at Bakarpur in the Vaishali district and connects to Patna via the JP Setu over the Ganga river at Digha. It proceeds through Manikpur, Sahebganj, and Areraj before terminating in Bettiah.Travel Time: The \ (45 km}\) distance between Digha (Patna) and Vaishali will be covered in about 30 minutes, and the total corridor will cut travel time from Patna to Bettiah from 6 hours to approximately 3 hours.Cost & Timeline: The overall expressway is budgeted between ₹5,996 crore and ₹8,660 crore and is slated for completion around 2027.Significance: Part of the Bharatmala Project and the PM Gati Shakti initiative, it vastly improves access to the international Buddhist circuit (including Vaishali and Kesariya Stupa) and neighboring Indo-Nepal border routes.Current StatusConstruction of the expressway is actively underway in various phases. Land acquisition has been progressing across the districts of Patna, Saran, and Vaishali, clearing bottlenecks to speed up construction.
