This ABC phonics nursery rhyme goes through the alphabet from A to Z with one animal for every letter, and it is made for children who are still learning to tell one letter from another. Many young learners mix up letters that look or sound alike, such as b and d, p and q, or m and n. Here each of those letters gets its own animal, its own clear sound and its own moment, so they stay separate in a child’s mind.
Every letter is sung slowly and on its own before the animal is named. First the letter appears on screen in large type, then the sound is spoken, then the animal comes in. Hearing the sound first helps children notice what is different about each one, and the animal name gives them something to hold the letter by. A child who is unsure about b can think of bear and bat, and a child who is unsure about d can think of dog and duck.
Letters that are often confused are placed with animals whose names begin in clearly different ways. Bear and dog, for example, start with sounds that feel different in the mouth, and the rhyme leaves a short pause after each one so children can try both and feel the difference themselves. Parents and teachers can use those pauses to ask, “Which one did you hear?” and let the child answer before the next letter arrives.
