The CSL Tadoussac passes under the Clarence Street Bridge in the Welland Canal. At the 1:40 mark, after some honking arm gestures by some younger onlookers, the Tadoussac obliges with a rare salute. Shortly after the Captain goes onto the bridge wing to wave to the crowd. Later on in the video you can see a couple fellow Engine Room Mechanical Assistants waving as well. The second oldest boat in the CSL fleet was heading upbound to Detroit, MI to deliver a load of cement clinker. Also, at the end of the video the cruise ship Victory II makes a cameo appearance! The 730 foot self-unloader CSL Tadoussac was built at Collingwood (ON) Shipbuilding and launched in 1969, as the last pilothouse forward freighter built for CSL. She is equipped a Sulzer 6-cylinder diesel engine cranking out 9600 bhp, which is good for a top speed of 14.75 knots. At the conclusion of the 2000 shipping season, she was sent to Port Weller Shipyards for upgrades, which included the widening of her hull (which produced her trademark side bustles) and the replacement of her self-unloading machinery. The Clarence Street Bridge, also known as Welland Canal Bridge 21 was built between 1927 and 1929 utilizing Parker through truss construction. The nearly century old bridge is one of only 3 vertical lift bridges in use on the Welland Canal. The other bridges are all of the jackknife style. Recorded on July 22nd, 2026. Happy Birthday Mom!
