A drover means to walk round the village he was born in, and the two people telling him to go in cannot agree on a single fact. Medieval tavern music with lyrics for any table where two players argue the same side, sung by Silas Halfpenny and Nell over hammered dulcimer, tabor and recorder while the whole room takes sides. Good for a D&D party that agrees on the plan and nothing else, a tavern scene that needs the room picking sides by the second chorus, or any campaign where an NPC means to ride past the village they were born in. Keep a seat at the table:    / @thelastcopper   From the songbook of Silas Halfpenny, entry the thirty-ninth. A drover was half a day from the village he was born in, and he meant to walk round it. He said so out loud, in a house with me in it, which was his first mistake. Nell and I were both at him before he had finished. We said the same thing, go in, and that was the end of our agreeing. I said there would be bread on the table before he said hello. She said he would be handed a bucket by dark. His dog gave up on the pair of us. Nell says I'm wrong. She usually is. — Silas Halfpenny ━━━━━━━━━━ LYRICS ━━━━━━━━━━ The drover in the corner has not taken his hat off. He's half a day from the village he was born in. He means to go round it. It is further than that. Me and Nell don't agree on much. We were both at him before he finished. The road curls past his village and he has been letting it. He had it worked out. He said it out loud where I could hear. He picked the wrong house. One of us says you've not been gone that long. One of us says your chair is filled. We don't agree on much. One of us is wrong. Go in and see. (Somebody's wrong in here!) WE BOTH said GO! I'll say it once and get on. There's a stranger in your chair. He has sat in it long enough to own it. Your mother is smaller than you remember. So is the yard. Nobody will cry. Somebody will want money off you inside the week. Go in. One of us says you've not been gone that long. One of us says your chair is filled. We don't agree on much. One of us is wrong. Go in and see. (Somebody's wrong in here!) WE BOTH said GO! You'd have enjoyed this, friends. I said there'd be bread on the table before he'd said hello. She said he'd be handed a bucket by dark. I said the walk gets shorter every year. She said it does not. We went at it over his head. His supper went cold. His dog gave up and slept. He picked his pack up halfway through my best bit. He looked at her. He looked at me. He said, I don't know which of you is right. One of us says you've not been gone that long. One of us says your chair is filled. We don't agree on much. One of us is wrong. Go in and see. (Somebody's wrong in here!) WE BOTH said GO! He went in. Neither of us did that. He had been watching the pair of us the whole time: two people who cannot agree about the weather, both stopping work for a man they will never see again. He took it for somebody bothering with him. He took it for two fools shouting. I'd have liked it to be my doing. It was not. He never did take that hat off. One of us says you've not been gone that long. One of us says your chair is filled. We don't agree on much. One of us is wrong. Go in and see. WE BOTH said GO! He'll be back through inside the month. No. We don't agree on much.
