Although I don't have any recollection of owning this cassette back in
the day my primary school playgroup had this cassette and sometimes
when I was going through the hall during break time either going outside
or coming in after the school bell rang I have heard this cassette playing
and remember recognizing the first part of Deck the halls in a church organ
style thinking maybe the whole track was done in that style.
But during Christmas half term at after school club I decided to
secretly borrow the cassette and play it and I really liked the music
arrangements because Paul approached many of the arrangements
in the style of Phil Spector including Jingle Bells so it does give you some
idea of what Jingle Bells might have sounded like if Jingle Bells was on
the Phil Sperctor album. One good thing about Christmas cassettes and
CDs like this one is the fact they are versatile even adults can enjoy
listening to them too!
But the second time I heard Deck the Halls I was surprised at how the
arrangements actually completely changes after the first verse from
churchy organ sounding to poppy with the sound of church bells chiming.
Hearing it many years after I discovered that the midi music was done
with a Roland SC-55 and also a Yamaha XG tone generator ( most likely
an MU80 ) but over the past year I also discovered that some of these
midi backing tracks are actually edited versions of midi files sequenced
by Heavenly Music sold on floppy disks by BKD ( that's part of the reason
why some of my Christmas midi backing tracks sound rather similar but
also because I was inspired by the likes of CYP and CRS Records ).
Music arranged and produced by Paul Mardle.
Vocalists: Karen Noble and Paul Mardle.
(P) & (C) 1996 CYP for Early Learning Center.
I don't own any rights to this, I am just uploading for nostalgia
and for anyone else who remembers this cassette growing up back in the day.
