In this video I talk about how chasing a daily word count burned me out and why output and progress aren't the same thing. I wrote an entire novel by hitting my target every single day, and it felt awful. That experience changed how I think about writing progress permanently. We look at why the '1000 words a day' approach works for some writers but can really not work for others, what actually counts as progress (research, outlining, thinking time, even realising something isn't working), and how to measure your writing in a way that doesn't make you feel like a failure on the days the words don't come.
