From the North Sea to the Ardennes 🇧🇪 and Colmar 🇫🇷 | A Family Road Trip

Welcome back to our Belgian adventure! After exploring the Belgian coast and discovering the beautiful city of Bruges in our last episode, we still have a few days left before we leave Belgium. First, we head to Ooostduinkerke to witness something truly special: Brabant horses walking into the sea to catch shrimp — a centuries-old tradition that I was very happy we discovered. 🐴🌊 We spend another windy day at the coast, celebrate Belgian National Day, enjoy plenty of ice cream and bring home quite some sand. From the coast, we make our way south into the Belgian Ardennes. Our base is another campsite, and from there we take a day trip to Bouillon. We explore the town, walk along the river Semois, climb up to its impressive medieval fortress, have a picnic and head off for a little hike through the forest. We enjoy one last at the campsite whilst the yearly summer party takes place which includes a foam party and Super Mario delivering pizza. Well that was never on my bucket list, but here we go. And then, sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to Belgium. 🇧🇪 We drive towards France, passing through Luxembourg one last time — and as gas prizes are very low compared to the neighbouring countries - we have to take advantage of the cheap petrol. Well… so did everyone else. 😂 Our final destination is Colmar in Alsace, where we slow things down for a couple of days. We wander through the beautiful old town, enjoy some crêpes and tarte flambée, celebrate a birthday and let the kids cool off in the fountains and the pool. And just like that, another family adventure comes to an end.
