Get an ArcGIS Location Platform API key, paste it into one workbench, and run geocoding, routing, places, data, elevation, demographics and spatial analysis on one map.
Open the app: https://location-services.allthingssp...
Full walkthrough and what it does not do: https://www.allthingsspatial.io/pages...
The ArcGIS Location Platform is Esri's developer offering: the services behind ArcGIS Online, billed per request. The episode starts in the Location Platform dashboard: Content, New item, Developer credentials, API key credentials, the privileges (basemaps, geocoding, routing, places, elevation, GeoEnrichment), referrer URLs, expiration, title and summary. The key is copied once; the dashboard does not show it again.
In the app, Activate your key now opens a masked field. Validate & Save checks the key against the World Geocoding service, the basemap switches from OpenStreetMap to the ArcGIS basemap, and the pill shows the last four characters. The key is stored in the browser tab only (sessionStorage) and is gone when the tab closes.
Seven tabs, every function shown on Denver, Colorado:
1. Geocoding - forward (1701 Wynkoop St, score 100), reverse (typed or Click Map), and Batch CSV with Download.
2. Routing - typed or pinned stops, Add stop, Driving / Walking / Trucking, Optimize order, then the route line, total distance and time, and every turn.
3. Places - category filter, anchor + radius, up to 20 places per page within a radius of up to 10 km (the documented service limit), each with name, category and distance; click a marker for its popup.
4. Data - any hosted feature layer by URL with a WHERE clause (USA Major Cities, POPULATION above 100000, 337 features, capped at 500), or upload GeoJSON / CSV.
5. Elevation - point elevation in meters and feet, and a multi-point profile drawn as an SVG chart (at-many-points, POST, 100 points within 50 km).
6. Enrichment - population, households, income and housing for a ring around any point through GeoEnrichment (the app caps it at 10 calls a day).
7. Spatial - buffer, overlay (union / intersect / A minus B), convex hull and measure, all in the browser on the Maps SDK geometryEngine with no service call.
Today's Usage counts each service against its daily cap and resets at midnight; Manage your key clears the key. The same workbench also runs in Esri's Calcite Design System at https://platform.allthingsspatial.io/... (paste the key in the header; Routing there adds a departure time).
