Niger says mutiny attempt in capital has been contained

Niger’s defence ministry said an attempted mutiny in the capital Niamey had been contained after hours of gunfire and explosions. A security source said soldiers from several areas were involved in the attack, which targeted the military air base near the main airport and the presidential palace.
