TRT Collective S3E1 - Alizėe Froment - THE BIG DECISION

Season three of the TRT Collective starts where it all began: back in Belgium with Alizée Froment, catching up on how her horses have been doing since Tristan's last visit. The main focus of this episode is Monte Cristo. Since the last shoot, Alizée made a big decision: to geld him. It wasn't done to make him easier to train. It was done to make his whole life easier. The difference is already visible. He is calmer, more at peace, and for the first time in a long while, he is opening a conversation instead of shutting one down. Monte Cristo is not a horse who responds well to rules first. When the session starts with lines and boundaries, he feels trapped and the frustration comes straight back. So Alizée turned the usual order around: play first, and bring in structure once he feels safe enough to join in. Tristan builds on that by giving him a purpose. With beanbags on the ground as visual targets, Monte Cristo learns to look at a destination, organise his body, and step behind and across before moving forward. It's simple and clear, and there's a reason for every step. That foundation then goes into the ridden work. Once the horse is drawing himself forward towards something, the leg aid has a different meaning. It no longer has to push him somewhere he doesn't want to go. It supports a movement that is already happening. Monte Cristo is strong on one side and a small boy with a small heart on the other. The goal isn't only to build his confidence through familiar routines. It's to give him a foundation in his own body that he can take anywhere, even when something is new or challenging. With a horse like this, you have to think out of the box, and then a little further.
