5 Reasons Your Rug Is Wrong

Is your rug the wrong size, material, or style for your space? In this episode of Dear Alice, we're breaking down five common rug mistakes and sharing expert interior design tips for choosing the right rug to anchor your furniture, define your style, and transform a room. From choosing the correct rug size to understanding the differences between hand-knotted, hand-tufted, hand-woven, and power-loomed rugs, we explain what makes a rug beautiful, functional, and worth the investment. We also discuss how to use rugs to introduce color, pattern, and texture into your home, why you shouldn't automatically default to a neutral rug, and how to select a design that will feel timeless for years to come. Choosing the right rug also means understanding materials. We compare wool, silk, cashmere, jute, and viscose, including which materials work best for busy living spaces, dining rooms, kids, and pets. Plus, we share practical rug care tips, from vacuuming without damaging the pile to rotating your rug, choosing the right rug pad, and knowing when professional cleaning is worth it. Whether you're decorating a living room, furnishing a new home, or planning a custom interior, this episode will help you avoid common rug buying mistakes and make a more confident investment in your home.
