Speedrun To 1500: The Philidor Fest!

Welcome to the Philidor Fest. In this installment of my educational chess speedrun, I make a clean climb to 1500 and face the Philidor Defense again and again as there are many 1. e4 players in this rating range and Chess.com has blessed me with the Black pieces a lot. Fortunately, it’s an opening I know rather well. Several games are effectively won straight out of the opening, giving us a chance to examine why the Philidor remains such a powerful practical weapon. Rather than relying on traps, we’ll look at how sound development, familiar structures, and thematic plans can create serious problems when an opponent doesn’t respond accurately.
