Coupling (2000) cast then and now 2026 – where are they now? Twenty-six years after Steven Moffat's BBC sitcom first put six friends on one sofa, we follow the cast of Coupling from the bar table in 2000 into real life today.
Jack Davenport was Steve, the man who could not commit to a sofa cushion, yet off screen he married Michelle Gomez the same month the show began and went on to Pirates of the Caribbean, Kingsman and The Morning Show. Gina Bellman turned Jane into a comedy legend after surviving the storm of Blackeyes, then became the grifter Sophie Devereaux in Leverage. Richard Coyle walked away from Jeff at the height of the show's fame, and you will hear exactly why he did it and where that choice took him. Sarah Alexander, the real-life version of Susan, built her own path from nineteen, from Smack the Pony to Green Wing and Jonathan Creek. Ben Miles went from cocky Patrick to Thomas Cromwell in Wolf Hall, chosen by Hilary Mantel herself. Kate Isitt nearly lost the part of Sally by turning up to the audition on the wrong day, and Richard Mylan, who replaced Jeff as Oliver in 2004, has spoken openly about a twenty-year fight with heroin addiction.
Not every story has a happy ending. Lou Gish, who played Julia, Jeff's boss, tragically passed away from cancer in 2006 at just thirty-eight, less than a year after losing her mother, Sheila Gish.
From 2000 to 2004 Coupling gave British comedy some of its most quoted lines. Some of these changes will surprise you, and a few you would never guess.
