Fixing What Was Hiding Under the Rust | 1958 GMC NAPCO

The restoration of my 1958 GMC NAPCO continues, and what started as a door hinge repair has uncovered a lot more hidden rust than I expected. In Episode 2, I lay out my repair plan for rebuilding the lower hinge pillar and step pocket, then get to work repairing the structural pieces underneath it. This week I repair the front cab mount/cross-sill structure and fit and weld the new front floor pan patch. I’m learning as I go—figuring out the repair sequence, testing my welds, making mistakes, and working toward getting this corner of the cab solid again.
