Everyone called him Barney. But even as a kid you could tell this was not the Barney we all knew. No green belly or dinosaur tail. Just some thick purple creature in his briefs. But what none of us knew was that this bizarre video had a much bigger, much older internet history than we realized. This is the story of Barney Hippo, the oldest surviving Barney video on YouTube, and the lost rabbit hole older than the platform itself.
