FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY Title: African Drumming: With Babatunde Olatunji Description: The acknowledged master of African drumming, Babatunde Olatunji, presents essential techniques, rhythmic patterns, and concepts for drummers of all levels. The spiritual powers of 'the drum' and drumming are the focus of this video. Inspiring lessons and performances will expand anyone's playing on the Ashiko, Djembe, and related drums. The Goon, Godo, and Pa/Ta Methods. Goon (Bass Tone) Played in the middle of the drum by dropping the hand with fingers together and thumb relaxed. Godo (Open Tone) is played by extending the middle finger to the lower part of the hand on the drum, with the thumb excluded. This produces an open, resonant sound. Pa/Ta (Sharp Tone/Slap) This is described as a slap, but with a specific tilted hand position where the whole action begins with the little finger, distributing the impact across multiple fingers to prevent pain. Thumbs are excluded.
