When Heavens join in the fight | Rev Mary W Kariithi

God joins not to take sides, but to settle the matter. Drawing from Joshua 10, we saw a remarkable demonstration of God's intervention in the battle of Israel against the Amorites. Joshua prayed and commanded the sun to stand still and the moon to remain in place until Israel had completed its victory. But there was even more: the Lord Himself fought for Israel. Joshua 10:11 tells us: “…the LORD cast down large hailstones from heaven on them… and there were more who died from the hailstones than those whom the children of Israel killed with the sword.” What a powerful picture. Heaven joined the fight. The hailstones fell upon Israel's enemies, not upon God's people. God intervened supernaturally on behalf of Israel, while Joshua and his army continued to pursue the enemy. The message was clear: When God joins the fight, the battle cannot remain ordinary. There are battles where our strength is insufficient, our resources are limited and our strategies cannot take us all the way. But when Heaven steps in, God can accomplish what no human effort can accomplish. May the Lord fight for His people. May He intervene in battles we cannot win by our own strength. And may we always remember that the battle belongs to the Lord.
