CHEKAVAR | A Film by Gijo Uthuppu | AVIUM STUDIOS × GARUDA X MEDIA | Official Film | Youtube | IICT

A battle remembered by history. A story imagined through cinema. Set against the historic Battle of Colachel in 1741, CHEKAVAR is a fictional cinematic story inspired by the land, people, courage and martial traditions of the period. The characters and dramatic events in the film are fictional, created within the historical backdrop of one of the most significant chapters in Travancore’s history. CHEKAVAR was created as part of the Create with AI initiative in association with YouTube and the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT). The project brings together human storytelling, performance, traditional filmmaking knowledge and a new generation of AI filmmaking tools. To preserve the physical authenticity of the world, our team worked with real Kalari practitioners and Chekavars, filming genuine martial movements, weapons and combat references that became an important foundation for the film. IICT supported the project through facilities, mentorship and creative guidance, while YouTube and Google AI technologies helped us explore a new production language and make this ambitious film possible. CHEKAVAR is presented by AVIUM STUDIOS and GARUDA X MEDIA.
