The 'Right Time' Is A Lie: How To Build Your Creative Career Now

You don't wait to become the artist; you become through doing. Be, Do, Create is about why you shouldn't wait for motivation, confidence or a fully formed identity before making your work. You become the artist by behaving like the artist — showing up, making imperfect things and allowing repeated action to build something you couldn't see in advance. Helen uses her experience of making thousands of paintings — and later forcing herself through a 30-day creative challenge when she had fallen into a rut — to show how bodies of work, careers and even new directions in life emerge one small act at a time. The video explores why procrastination is often less about laziness than fear: while the canvas stays blank, it retains infinite potential; the moment we begin, we risk making something imperfect. The answer is to become less precious, produce more abundantly and stop asking every individual work to prove our worth. The central idea is simple: Be what you want to become. Do the work that person would do. Creation follows. You won't always feel motivated, and some days you may need to stop altogether — but keep returning to the little bucket of sand. Eventually you look behind you and discover you've moved a mountain. And if the deeper question of recognising your own artistic voice interests you, I’m currently developing a substantial new course/program around exactly that problem. You’ll be able to register your interest after downloading the workbook. 👉 Watch the full Paint Morning Pages THE PURGE PLAYLIST    • The Purge (Painted Morning Pages For Artists)   CHAPTERS 00:00 Be Do Create Loop 01:18 Body of Work Emerges 01:48 Procrastination and Fear 02:29 Rut and Cannonball Commitment 03:33 30 Day Video Challenge 06:42 Finding the Real Channel 10:55 Abundance Over Perfection 17:53 Math Behind 3000 Paintings ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FREE TOOLS TO UNBLOCK YOUR CREATIVITY (Downloadable PDF worksheets) ► The 7 Bones of Creative Power: A no-fluff manifesto for artists who are done outsourcing their authority. https://courses.helennorton.com.au/pa... ► The Step Zero Blueprint: A gentle worksheet to find clarity when you're overwhelmed and can't choose where to start. https://courses.helennorton.com.au/pa... ► The Gordian Knot Challenge: A practical guide to cutting through creative paralysis and overwhelm. https://courses.helennorton.com.au/pa... ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONNECT WITH HELEN ► The Soulmaking Hub (Blog & Resources): https://www.soulmaking.com.au/ ► My Professional Artist Website (See my 40-year painting practice): https://www.helennorton.com.au/ ► My Artist YouTube Channel (Watch me paint):    / @helennorton   ------------------------------------------------------------------------ LEARN TO PAINT WITH ME ► Teachable Workshops: https://helen-norton-art.teachable.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FOLLOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA ► Instagram:   / helennortonart   ► Facebook:   / helennortonartist   ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is Soulmaking for Artists, where we go beyond simple tutorials to explore the deeper creative life.
