THE HAMSTERS - Sharp Dressed Man (instrument swapping) @ Cafe Wilhelmina, Eindhoven NL, 16.4.2000

I think the original idea for doing this was suggested by our roadie, Doug, so we had a go at it as a fun encore and audiences seemed to enjoy it; only trouble was, they then wanted another encore after this...well, sod that... so we turned it into the set closer and, if we were able, Andy on bass and Slim on guitar would take a stroll through the audience with illuminated guitars (installed by the great Martin Sims), then we'd swap over guitars in the audience. We'd then return to the stage where Otis would grab the bass and Slim would get on the kit. Andy had been a guitarist who also played bass and Slim had originally been a drummer who took up guitar 'cos he was tired of being first in/last out (and left with a sweaty arse for his trouble from sitting down all night)... when every other band member would saunter in, plonk an amp down and go: 'Well, I'm ready". Slim also decided he'd better start having a go at singing, 'cos everybody who's ever been in a band knows that lead singers can sometimes... well, frequently... be a right pain in the arse.
