GE oven showing the F97 error code? On many GE wall ovens, F97 is a cooling fan error. The oven's electronic control monitors the speed of the cooling fan, and if it is wrong, the oven may stop heating or shut down to protect its parts.
In this video we explain what F97 means, what you can safely check yourself, when a power reset is worth trying, and when the oven needs a technician.
What we cover:
What the GE F97 error code means
Why the cooling fan matters and why you should not keep using the oven with the code active
Power reset: breaker off for at least 30 seconds
A short supervised test, and when to stop using the oven
Checking that the vents around the oven are clear
Possible causes: cooling fan motor, wiring or connector, control board
Why you should not replace parts based on the code alone
What to tell the technician: model number, which oven shows the code, when it appears
When to contact GE service
Error codes can differ between GE models. A similar code on some GE ranges can refer to the door lock, and GE dishwashers use F97 for a different problem. Check the error code table in your owner's manual for your exact model.
Disclaimer: This video is for general information only. Procedures vary by model, so always follow your owner's manual first. Switch off the power at the breaker before any maintenance, and do not open a wall oven or pull it out of the cabinet unless you are a qualified technician. Contact GE support or a qualified technician if you are unsure.
