Security and Political Analyst Fida Adeel analyzes the rapidly changing political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PTI long march, and the possible imposition of Emergency or Governor Rule in the province.
Latest Updates:
According to sources, the inside story of the meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman at the Prime Minister House has come out. Sources say Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman has opposed the imposition of emergency and governor rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating that governor rule or emergency is not a solution to end terrorism. He advised that the government and opposition should give dialogue another chance on the KP issue.
Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman will take the party leadership into confidence regarding today's meeting with the Prime Minister. His contacts with the opposition leadership are expected again, and he is ready to play a role in reducing political tension over the KP situation, emphasizing resolving the issue through political negotiations instead of emergency. A meeting between Maulana Fazal-ur-Rahman and PTI leaders is also expected, where he will inform the PTI leadership about his meeting with the government.
Earlier, sources claimed that in a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr, a major decision was taken and the federal government has agreed to impose emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Emergency is likely to get approval from the federal cabinet tomorrow, and a session of both houses of Parliament has been called for ratification on Tuesday, October 13, with separate sessions of the National Assembly and Senate.
Meanwhile, an important meeting of senior party leadership was held at Chief Minister House Peshawar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister KP Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi. The meeting held detailed discussion on the country's political situation, the phased long march and other important matters. The meeting was attended by Acting Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, Provincial President Junaid Akbar Khan, Parliamentary Leader Shahid Khattak and Provincial Minister Shafi Jan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has also issued written operational instructions to deal with riots and protest demonstrations. According to police, elements involved in vandalism and disturbing law and order will be dealt with strictly in accordance with law. No damage to government installations, buildings and properties will be allowed during any riot or protest. Special arrangements will be made for protection of police stations, government buildings, banks, petrol pumps, commercial centers and important highways, and video recording of protest demonstrations will be carried out for legal proceedings.
On the other hand, news circulating about launch of any new large-scale operation after possible emergency is completely baseless and fake. Such propaganda aims to spread anxiety. Intelligence Based Operations (IBOs) continue on daily basis as per ground situation and threat assessment as in the past.
