Message by Pastor Arnold De Guzman Sunday – October 4, 2026 TRUSTING CHRIST WITH WHAT WE HAVE John 11:1-16 TAKEAWAY Faith is not measured by how much we have, but by how faithfully we trust Christ with what we have. https://christschurchinmakati.org/wor... #WorshipExperience #ChristsChurchInMakati #ChurchOnlineExperience #motivation John 11:1 – 3 Now a man named Lazarus was sick. He was from Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 (This Mary, whose brother Lazarus now lay sick, was the same one who poured perfume on the Lord and wiped his feet with her hair.) 3 So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” John 11:4 – 7 When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, 7 and then he said to his disciples, “Let us go back to Judea.” John 11:11 – 16 After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” 12 His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” 13 Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep. 14 So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, 15 and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” 16 Then Thomas (also known as Didymus) said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.” John 11:1-16 Four Realities 1. There is a family in crisis. vv. 1–2, Lazarus is sick. And Mary and Martha send Jesus a message. 2. They know Jesus. v. 3, “Lord, the one you love is sick.” They know where to go when the crisis comes. 3. Jesus loves them. v. 5, “Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.” 4. Yet Jesus delays. v. 6, “So, when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days.” “GOD'S DELAY DOES NOT MEAN GOD'S ABSENCE” 1. A family can be loved by Jesus and still experience serious need. (John 11:5-6) Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days... Economic difficulty is not automatically evidence of God's displeasure. 2. Jesus does not merely solve the family's problem; He transforms the family's understanding of Him. (John 11:4) When he heard this, Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it.” 4. Jesus sometimes allows us to reach the end of our resources so we discover the sufficiency of His grace. Jesus isn't merely the One who prevents death. Jesus is the One who has authority over death. CONCLUSION The Life-Giving Christ invites us to trust His presence, timing, and purposes—even when our family's needs are urgent, our resources are limited, and we cannot yet see what He is doing. REFLECTION QUESTION What has Christ entrusted to me—money, time, skills, possessions, or relationships—that I can faithfully steward for the blessing of my family and my church family?
