At last, the endgame! Sorry I forgot to put this up.
To the surprise of no one, Chapter 3 is where SS becomes a real piece of business. I must have spent two hours on 3-3 alone.
IL Notes:
0:00 Chapter 3-1: NIGHTMARE
The second and last "wartime memories" chapter. Buckle up, everyone; this is cyborg country.
Floor 1 falls to Gunslinger's Punch, Magnetic Punch, and Bravery bonus. The glass walls between the northern and southern rooms make for a great spot to get Bravery.
Floor 2 is where this level, and the entire chapter, stop playing nice. Notice that I prioritize the cyborgs in the first and second room? Yeah, when you enter the second room, kill the gunman first. The shot he fired right as I wrecked the cyborg near him really should have killed me.
Floor 3 is where you really gotta make smart use of explosives if you want to get SS here without having to parry the cyborgs. (More on this later.) Once again, breaking through glass to enter a room is the play if you're going for Bravery points.
1:34 Chapter 3-2: MIDNIGHT
A level where darkness makes your field of view smaller? Hope you didn't forget what the Shift key does!
Of course, it's also an Ayn level, which means you have to plan around him shooting when you don't want him to. From what I can tell, he targets the enemy closest to him, like Jin's knife, but still, it can be annoying when you're trying to chain Gunslinger's Punches.
Floor 1 hammers in how much you need Ayn to cooperate here. This chapter isn't as lenient as 2-3 by a long shot. (Heh, funny how both the Ayn levels have the same numbers in them.)
On Floor 2, I switched to Gunslinger's Knife to give the Quantum Knife extra range. I've since SS'ed this floor without it, but it really helps against the swarms of gunmen here.
As a quick bonus, enjoy this outtake I recorded just earlier today. I hit a real home run with that cat drone.
Floor 3 is a tricky one because of the last room being more open and having a laser sentry, but the nice thing about this floor is that Roombas get launched by normal punches, so you don't really have to worry about Ayn screwing up your Gunslinger's Punches.
Floor 4 has more or less the same qualities as Floor 3 as far as SS goes, but with cyborgs. However, to be on the safe side, I did some cat drone escort strats here.
4:01 Chapter 3-3: CONVERGENCE
Floor 1 is innocent enough, if fairly challenging due to the abundance of gunmen in a wide-open area. Remember to launch enemies into doors to attract as many as possible.
Remember when I said I must have spent 2 hours on this level alone? Well, 90 minutes of that was trying different routes and builds on Floor 2 before finally realizing that I can just milk the cyborgs for points by parrying them repeatedly. This is the cheesy method I was talking about, but I least I got that spicy double-parry on the gunman shortly afterward. Thanks, cat drone, for getting in the way of that shot!
You'll also notice that I destroy camera turrets as often as I can. Don't sleep on the points you get for those!
Floor 3 is another parry-spamming floor, and Floor 4 is just a "Style is Survival" floor. I realize now that I missed a breakable wall on Floor 4 that leads from the central room to the northern hallway, but I'm satisfied with these runs anyway.
6:52 Chapter 3-4: FALL
The last two proper floors of the game are basically just a victory lap after conquering 3-3. Just flies on a windshield on the way to weather a storm.
After seeing Nimo for just a few more words of encouragement from my precious dear JoJo-posing deer, it's time to get a good look at what this has all been for. This dirty, corrupt, and positively beautiful city.
8:37 BOSS: Colonel Hoban
The skills DJ Garak tested you on back in 1-4 shine again in the ultimate test of strength and resolve. Hoban has moves you constantly need to be ready to back away from anytime you get too comfy parrying his regular strikes.
Funnily enough, you'll notice that I couldn't even escape having to SS the phases of this fight out of order. Because of that, I actually had to readjust because I was so used to Hoban's second phase, LOL.
What do wives, cars, dogs, and rabbits have in common? Be careful whose you mess with.
11:01 FINAL BOSS: Annihilator Hoban
YES! FUCKING! PLEASE! This is what I look for in an action game's final boss - one that pushes your understanding of the game's combat and movement while simultaneously delivering on spectacle and catharsis. Someone get Baron Lionel (from Mina the Hollower) on the line and tell him he's got competition for Final Boss of the Year 2026!
The first charged punch you land deals massive damage, and then after that, he only takes damage when his shield is down. Piling on the damage to keep him shieldless while surviving his attacks requires quick wit, strong reaction time, and solid positioning, all of which are skills you should have been developing over the course of the game.
