Katakana Reading Practice | Yoon, Extra Sounds, Small Tsu & Long Vowels | IRODORI Chart 3 Practice 36 katakana yoon combinations, 14 extra sounds, 10 vocabulary words, and 10 words with small ッ and the long-vowel mark ー. Read aloud. You can also write the romaji on paper. Characters: 3 seconds to answer. Words: 5 seconds to answer. The answer appears first; Nanami's Japanese audio starts 0.5 seconds later. The final 10 words are spoken more slowly. Listen and repeat. Pause if needed. PRONUNCIATION TIPS Read small ャ・ュ・ョ together with the preceding character as one beat, as in キャ (kya). Small ッ takes one beat. Briefly hold the following consonant before releasing it. カップ → ka · [pause] · pu. Do not add a vowel during the pause. The long-vowel mark ー stretches the vowel just before it. Hold that vowel for two beats with no pause: カード → kaa · do. The dots group the sounds visually; do not pause between groups. ヂャ・ヂュ・ヂョ are uncommon spellings; their pronunciation is shown as ja, ju, jo. ティ・ディ・トゥ・ドゥ are shown as ti, di, tu, du for pronunciation. These are not keyboard-input instructions. Japanese voice: Nanami (AI-generated speech).
