Welcome to Week 2 of the Sketchbook Fundamentals course.
This week we’re focusing on one of the most important building blocks in drawing: the box.
Boxes may seem simple, but they are the foundation of understanding form, perspective, and spatial awareness. Almost everything you draw can be broken down into simple box-like structures before adding details. Learning to think in boxes will make it much easier to draw objects, environments, characters, and tattoo designs from any angle.
In this lesson, we’ll explore:
How to construct simple boxes in perspective
Drawing boxes from above, below, and eye level
Rotating and tilting boxes in space
Understanding volume and depth
Building confidence in drawing three-dimensional forms
Don’t worry about creating perfect drawings. The goal is to train your brain to see and think in 3D. Every box you draw is an exercise in understanding space and structure.
Weekly Challenge
Draw 10 boxes from different angles.
Try to include:
Boxes viewed from above
Boxes viewed from below
Rotated boxes
Tilted boxes
Different proportions (tall, wide, long)
Keep them simple. The goal is not perfect perspective but developing your ability to think in three dimensions and understand form.
Post your 10-box challenge in the community so everyone can see your progress and give feedback.
See you in Week 3.
Keep drawing. Keep learning. Keep filling those sketchbooks.
