Bullet Train - Beijing to Shanghai - Family Trip to China pt 4

In December of 2023, we spent 18 days traveling from Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to Shanghai, China, and several places in between. We traveled over 5300 km (3300 miles) mostly by train, with one short 1.5-hour flight. #bullettrains #chinatrain #beijingshanghai In this video, we travel from Beijing to Shanghai by one of China's fastest trains. Reaching nearly 350 km/h (217.5 mph) we cover the 1300 km (800 mile) journey in 4 and a half hours!! For these train tickets, I contacted a travel agent (a friend of a friend) in China (lu@choice-travel-china.com). He got us the tickets to Shanghai and back to Beijing. The cost for one way on the 4.5-hour fast train, 2nd class seat was 762 RMB (US$106) per adult and 381 RMB (US$53) per child ages 6 to 14. Extremely affordable!! You could probably get the tickets yourself through trip.com or other online sites for about the same price ($5 to $10 less maybe), however, the tickets go on sale only 15 days in advance and could sell out quickly for your chosen date and time. Mr. Lu could get them as soon as they became available. The trains run every hour all day starting about 5 am or so with slightly varying stops in between that affect the exact travel time. The 4.5 hour is the fastest to Shanghai and therefore costs a few dollars more than say the 6-hour train. Food on the train seemed a bit expensive ($7 to $10 a meal).
