You Can Go Fast Alone, But Further Together | Emerald Isle Marathon

Another marathon in the books! Emerald Isle was one of my favorite races yet for so many reasons. I came into it hoping to beat my 3:41 from last year, but after keeping sub 8 pace through the first 18 miles, I started experiencing some of the worst cramps of my life. I finished in 3:53, which was disappointing, but there's always something to learn and another race to run. The best part of this race was having Haley, my family, and the Strength and Commission boys out there. I trained for this race alongside eight other guys, and getting to run it with them as so many of them CRUSHED their first marathon was an experience I'll remember for a long time. It reminded me of my time in the military and the satisfaction of working toward something hard with a group of guys. Before a deployment, I encouraged guys in my platoon to run their first half marathon. Later, while we were deployed I got some of the newer guys to take on the DANCON ruck march that was an 18-mile race through the mountains. Seeing their excitement after finishing something they weren't sure they could do was hard to beat. Watching these guys experience that same feeling after finishing their first marathon brought a lot of those memories back. You might be able to go fast alone, but you can go far together. This weekend was a good reminder of that. Here's a look at the week leading up to Emerald Isle, race day, and some thoughts the day after. The time wasn't what I wanted, but the experience was worth it. #EmeraldIsleMarathon #MarathonVlog #hybridathlete Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/sky-cassette/bad...
