The man on trial was not home when 7-year-old Ethan Hauschultz died. Day 1 opens the fight over what he ordered and what he knew. This is Day 1 of the Buried Beneath the Snow Trial in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Timothy Hauschultz, Ethan's great-uncle and court-appointed guardian, faces six charges, including neglecting a child with death as the consequence. He pleaded not guilty and the law presumes him innocent. His teenage son carried out the punishment and is already in prison for it. The State says the guardian set it and left a teenager in charge. The defense says the son is the one responsible. Before the jury came in, Judge Carey Reed refused to review juvenile records the State gave its own expert. After lunch, the defense told the judge no court has ever reviewed most of those pages. If the defense is right, who has checked what the State handed that expert?
