What happens when a fire severely damages industrial lifting equipment? Is it really beyond recovery? In this project, we show how fire-damaged lifting winches were recovered through a complete industrial hoist revamping and refurbishment process, transforming equipment that appeared to be lost into lifting equipment ready to be reused by the customer. The project began with the recovery of lifting winches affected by a major industrial fire. After the fire, the condition of the equipment made its future use appear uncertain. Instead of replacing the open barrel hoists completely, we carried out a detailed assessment to determine which components could be recovered, refurbished or replaced.
