Singapore to Kuala Lumpur by Train Singapore → Woodlands → Johor Bahru → Kuala Lumpur Here is the complete flow of our journey from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur by train, using the Tebrau Shuttle to cross the Singapore–Malaysia border and ETS to continue to Kuala Lumpur. 1. Queenstown MRT → Woodlands Checkpoint We started our journey from Queenstown MRT Station. From Queenstown, we took MRT to Kranji MRT Station and bus 170 towards Woodlands Train Checkpoint. There are also other bus services available, and you can check the bus information boards at the bus stop to see the available bus numbers and routes. We recommend checking the route before boarding, especially if this is your first time traveling to Woodlands Checkpoint. 2. Arriving at Woodlands Checkpoint Once we arrived at Woodlands Checkpoint, we walked towards the designated queue for passengers taking the Tebrau Shuttle. Because we traveled on a Friday evening, the area was quite busy. However, the queue was organized according to the upcoming train departures. Make sure you have your Tebrau Shuttle ticket ready, as the ticket is checked before you proceed further. Important: No Photography or Videography One important thing to know when traveling through Woodlands Checkpoint: Photography and videography are not allowed within checkpoint premises. ICA specifically states that photography and videography are not permitted within checkpoint premises, and travelers should follow the instructions and signage provided by checkpoint officers. So, for our video, we stopped recording once we entered the checkpoint area and only continued filming after it was permitted and appropriate to do so. If you are making a travel vlog, it is better to prepare your camera before entering the checkpoint, then put it away during the immigration and security clearance process. 3. Ticket Check → Immigration → Train The process is quite straightforward. After joining the queue, we went through the ticket check and immigration clearance before proceeding to the train. Keep your: Passport Tebrau Shuttle ticket Travel documents easily accessible. Follow the signs and instructions from the officers throughout the process. 4. Don't Forget Your Malaysia Digital Arrival Card Before traveling to Malaysia, remember to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) if it applies to your nationality and travel circumstances. It is better to complete the required arrival information before reaching the border so you are ready when going through Malaysian immigration. 5. Tebrau Shuttle: Singapore → Johor Bahru After completing the Singapore-side clearance, we boarded the Tebrau Shuttle. The journey itself is very short — only around five minutes from Woodlands to JB Sentral. We booked our ticket through the KTMB app. For our trip, the fare was around RM16 per person. Fares can change, so it is best to check the latest fare directly through KTMB when booking. KTMB provides Shuttle Tebrau ticketing through its official ticketing system and mobile app. 6. Arriving in Johor Bahru We took the last Shuttle Tebrau of the night, at around 11:50 PM. Because it was already late, we decided to stay overnight in Johor Bahru instead of continuing to Kuala Lumpur on the same night. This gave us some time to rest before continuing our journey the following day. 7. Johor Bahru → Kuala Lumpur by ETS The following day, we continued our journey from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur. Our ETS train was scheduled to depart at 12:45 PM. For this part of the journey, we chose Business Class. We also booked the ETS ticket through the KTMB app. Our ticket was approximately RM172 per person. KTMB's current timetable and booking system cover the ETS North-South sector, so it is worth checking the latest schedule before planning your connection. 8. On Board the ETS The Business Class journey was much longer than the Tebrau Shuttle, giving us plenty of time to relax and enjoy the scenery. Lunch was served, with a choice of meals from the available menu. A snack was also provided. We also received a small amenity pouch containing: Hand lotion An eye mask Tissues It was a nice little touch for a longer train journey. 9. Arriving in Kuala Lumpur After traveling through Johor and continuing north by ETS, we finally arrived in Kuala Lumpur. So our journey was: Queenstown MRT ↓ Bus 170 ↓ Woodlands Checkpoint ↓ Immigration ↓ Tebrau Shuttle ↓ JB Sentral, Johor Bahru ↓ One-night stay in Johor Bahru ↓ ETS Business Class ↓ Kuala Lumpur For us, the journey was not simply about getting from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. It was about slowing down, taking the train, watching the scenery change, and experiencing the journey in between. Singapore → Johor Bahru → Kuala Lumpur A different way to travel between two cities.
