By fostering dynamic experiential learning, research opportunities under the guidance of distinguished faculty and promoting life-long learning, the School of Advanced Sciences (SAS), VIT, persuades students for future employment and higher studies. Through research, the students enhance their own scientific awareness and learn to apply their knowledge to solve problems. Adding a Diamond to the Crown, Subject of Chemistry in VIT is ranked among the top 500 in QS World Ranking 2020.
The curriculum keeps abreast of the latest advancements in the respective domains as the syllabi are framed and revised by a Board of Studies that also consists of members from reputed institutions like IISc, IITs and industries. In addition to classroom and laboratory teaching, the students are engaged in experimental learning through research participation where students do projects in a research area of their choice. The School has tie-ups with various International Universities for research and faculty & student exchange programmes. The Semester Abroad Program (SAP) offers students an international exposure so as to prepare them for employment or research degree in basic and applied sciences. The Advanced Physics Research Laboratory Scheme (APRL) gives the students an opportunity to visit the advanced labs and get an understanding of what kind of research is being carried out by the faculty members and the team of research scholars. This also enables the students to narrow down on their area of interest for further research. The students are involved in a lot of extracurricular activities through the student clubs like Catalyst Club and Guruthva Club.
With three departments: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, the School offers University Core and Elective courses in the three areas for all UG & PG Programmes. Apart from this, it offers following programmes:
PG:
• M. Sc. Computational Statistics and Data Analytics (5 Years Integrated Programme)
• M. Sc. Physics
• M. Sc. Chemistry
• M. Sc. Data Science
• M. Sc. Business Statistics
PhD Programme in frontier areas of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
Over the years, the School has been receiving research grants from various National agencies like AERB, ARDB, BRNS, CII, CSIR, DBT-RGYI, DRDO, DST, IGCAR, ISRO, NBHM, NRB and UGC-DAE and International agencies like European Union and Ministry of Science and Technology, Israel. The Departments of Physics and Chemistry have also been recognised by DST for support under the Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure (FIST) programmes. Through the focused industry-academia interaction for academic and research excellence, the School aims to build long-term relationships, collaborative and consultative network of experts from academia, R&D and industry in India and abroad. The students from the School of Advanced Sciences have gone on to join of the leading research institutes in India and abroad.
