In the back pages of a Superman comic, somewhere after the last panel and before the inside cover, there was a whole store. Just tiny print, a coupon with a dotted line, and drawings that promised you X-Ray Specs, a submarine big enough for two kids, and an army of a hundred soldiers. These are the strangest toys that store ever sent to an American kid, and how little sense most of them made once the box finally showed up. In this video: ✓ The glasses that promised to see through anything ✓ A cardboard submarine over seven feet long ✓ One hundred soldiers in a footlocker ✓ The goldfish guaranteed to stay invisible ✓ A coin that was supposed to control minds ✓ Seven giant dinosaurs that came in an envelope ✓ Joke shop pranks mailed straight to your house Look at the stack of them all together and something comes into focus. Almost none of these did what the ad said, and whoever sent away for them mostly knew it, somewhere in the back of their minds, before they ever licked the stamp. What they were really paying for was the wait. So what did you mail away for, and what came back in the envelope? There are still a few drawers we haven't opened, and the strange stuff is always at the back. ComicBookAds #1970s #XRaySpecs #VintageToys #Nostalgia
