Netflix's The Sandman adaptation has impressed many. I'm only getting to it now, but I've been blown away, not least by episode 5 - 24/7. This is the episode which finds David Thewlis' John Dee holed up in a diner, using his stolen ruby to build a 'better', more honest world. Like the comic, The Sandman tells the story of Morpheus, the titular Sandman.
