These old stone barn walls were still standing — but parts of them were already dangerously unstable.
Over time, mortar had disappeared from many of the joints, leaving individual stones loose and sections of the masonry at risk of further deterioration and collapse.
The goal of this project was to save as much of the original walls as possible. Unstable sections were carefully repaired and rebuilt where necessary, reusing the original stones and working with traditional lime mortar. Large stones were carefully lifted and positioned back into the masonry using a telescopic tripod and chain block.
Not every old stone wall needs to be completely rebuilt. When problems are addressed in time, much of the original masonry can often be preserved.
This project shows why timely repair matters — sometimes the difference between conserving old stone walls and having to rebuild them later.
