Gdańsk 🇵🇱 - Wyspa Spichrzów | Europe’s Historic Granary Reborn

Wyspa Spichrzów, or Granary Island, was one of the working hearts of historic Gdańsk. Its warehouses stored grain and other goods moving through the port, supporting international maritime trade. The digging of the New Motława channel in 1576 helped create the island’s distinctive setting between waterways, while rows of tall granaries gave the riverfront its recognisable silhouette. Almost all of that dense storage district was destroyed in 1945, and ruins remained for decades while other parts of the centre were rebuilt. Recent redevelopment has brought a new chapter, combining preserved or reconstructed historic elements with contemporary buildings. Today apartments, hotels, restaurants and riverside public spaces occupy ground once devoted to cargo and storage. This walk explores that transformation beside the Motława, where new architecture recalls the scale and rooflines of the old warehouses while serving very different purposes. The island’s rebirth makes Gdańsk’s history of trade, destruction and urban renewal visible along the waterfront. 3D Product Configurators for Manufacturers ➡️ https://arkerion.com/ Making a game?
