Holocaust Remembrance Ambassadors at Sanders Theater

UNESCO Artist for Peace, Guila Clara Kessous and Harvard Divinity School staged a reading of Elie Weisel's play The Choice at Harvard’s historic Sanders Theatre in anticipation of Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) 2015. In remembrance of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, the performance directed by Kessous featured six notable community leaders charged with transmitting the testimony of the choices that make us human. Prior to the reading, Kessous led an educational workshop, sharing theatrical methods for community engagement around genocide and remembrance. After the workshop, Remembrance Ambassadors participated in the production to symbolize their commitment to remembrance and community engagement. The combination of the immersive educational workshop and the once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience shared Elie Wiesel’s message of “never again” to those who bear the responsibility of remembrance.
