Immerse yourself in a 45-minute continuous psychedelic ambient journey and soundscape—crafted as an offering to my revered Guru, Trilochan Nath Shrestha (Trilo Baba), the namer of Freak Street. TRILO BABA — THE GANGSTER OF LOVE *A Tribute from His Chella* To my beloved Guru, Trilochan Nath Shrestha — Trilo Baba, the spirit of Ying Yang, the eternal hippie. Some men live by the rules of the world. Others remind us that life was never meant to be lived by rules alone. And then there was Trilo Baba. A seeker, a rebel, a mystic and a lover of life — a man who wore freedom like a second skin and carried the untamed spirit of a thousand wandering souls. To the world, he was Kathmandu's infamous hippie, the legendary character of Freak Street, the man behind Ying Yang. But to me, he was my Baba. My Guru. *The Man Who Refused to Be Ordinary* Trilo Baba belonged to a generation that dared to question everything. While society built walls, he searched for open doors. While others chased respectability, he pursued freedom, adventure and the beauty of simply being alive. His journey connected him with Pashupati's Aghori Babas and Kathmandu's extraordinary hippie era. A man of contradictions, he refused to be confined by convention. He had his struggles and imperfections, but he was unmistakably himself. Perhaps that was his greatest lesson: dare to live your own truth. *Ying Yang — More Than a Place* In 1970, Trilo Baba and his Spanish partner, Curry Ojeda, opened Ying Yang Restaurant on Jhochhen's legendary Freak Street. Travellers crossed continents searching for freedom, enlightenment and adventure. Ying Yang became a gathering place where cultures met, strangers became friends, music flowed and unconventional souls found a home. It was more than a restaurant. It was freedom made tangible — a little world where people could simply be themselves. Perhaps its name reflected its creator: Ying Yang, the meeting of opposites, light and darkness, the sacred and the profane. Trilo Baba understood that life was never simply black or white; it was a dance of contradictions. In the heart of Freak Street, he created a world that became part of Kathmandu's history. *My Guru, My Baba* A chella does not always learn through formal teachings. Sometimes the lesson comes through a laugh, a story or the example of someone who refuses to live a lie. A guru does not always give you a map. Sometimes he teaches you the courage to find your own road. Trilo Baba reminds me to question convention, embrace life and never let the world extinguish the child within. "Turn your passion into compassion, No judgement, no comparison, BE YOURSELF, PLUG -in, You know what a Sangam is?" He can be seen at Pashupati, reconnecting with the sadhus who had influenced him and embraced meditation. Even after suffering strokes, he continued finding joy in music and dancing. His story reminds us that a human life is larger than its mistakes, hardships or reputation. We are all a mixture of light and shadow. Perhaps wisdom lies in embracing both without losing our capacity for love. *The Gangster of Love* I love that name — the Gangster of Love. A rebel against conformity, a troublemaker in the eyes of convention, a man who followed his own rhythms and left behind stories that refused to behave themselves. And love — unconditionally, the unruly friendship, freedom, spiritual seeking and strangers who become family. Behind the legend was kindness, too. Trilo Baba welcomed sadhus and beggar children to Ying Yang, offering them food. Beneath the wildness was a heart that made room for those society often overlooked. He did not simply reject convention. He created his own world and invited others into it. *My Offering to You,* Dear Baba, I do not honour you because you were perfect. I honour you because you were unmistakably yourself. I honour the freedom you represented, the road you walked and the reminder that a meaningful life need not resemble the one society planned for us. As your chella, I offer you my respect, affection and gratitude. May the spirit of Ying Yang remind us that life is a dance of opposites. May the seeker in you inspire the seekers in us. May that untamed child within you keep dancing in the memories of everyone touched. You walked your own road, Baba. You made your own mythology. You lived a life that cannot be reduced to a single label. Thank you, Trilo Baba, for the madness and the magic, the questions and the contradictions, and the reminder that the soul must find its own way. The world may remember you as Kathmandu's infamous hippie. History may celebrate the legend of Ying Yang. But I will always remember you with the affection of a chella for his Baba. Aadesh Baba.
