You rent a place. You paint it, glue wood to the walls, stick on peel-and-stick tiles, film the whole thing and post it. "Renter-friendly," the caption says. Then the lease ends, the landlord walks in, and somebody gets the bill. This video follows ten creators through that exact moment. A girl gluing wood straight onto her rental wall, whose own caption says she's doing it without asking her landlord. A lawyer explaining why remodeling a place you don't own, planning to just lose the deposit, can count as destruction of property. A brand-new landlord whose tenant was supposed to paint the house light gray, and painted it blue. A tenant losing her whole deposit in a fight over camera holes, towel holders and sixteen-year-old paint. A $985-plus-tax bill for one bathroom wall, negotiated down to $500. A chalk artist on the phone with her landlord's wife. And a $200 cleaning fee that somehow wasn't enough. The pattern is the same every time: easy to put up doesn't mean easy to take down, and a verbal "sure, go ahead" isn't worth much on move-out day. Ask first, photograph everything, and get it in writing. If this saved you a deposit, hit subscribe to American Catch and tell us in the comments: would you spend your own money fixing up a rental? Tenants and landlords, both sides welcome. I read all of them. — CHAPTERS 0:00 Who pays for the wall? 0:36 Wood glued to a rental wall 1:34 "No power tools, no nail guns" 2:10 A lawyer calls it vandalism 4:02 The tenant from hell 5:02 Promised light gray, painted blue 5:18 Rice down the garbage disposal 5:57 Evict her, or live with a blue house? 7:10 "Our landlord is pissed" 8:34 Sixteen-year-old paint 9:05 Wear and tear vs. damage 9:32 The landlord special 10:34 A $1,200 bill for one wall 11:26 The landlord's wife calls 12:40 Why a landlord's bill is a first offer 13:12 "My therapist told me to stop" 14:44 30 days' notice, a full month's rent 16:04 The $200 cleaning fee 16:36 Permission, photos, paperwork — 📺 SOURCES (in order of appearance) Every clip here was filmed by the person you see.
