"Waimea Lullaby" is one of the tunes Led and I often play together. We recorded this version at our performance at the Melon Ball in Davis, CA. https://watermelonmusic.com/upcoming_... Led mentions that Frank Delima sang on the original recording - apparently Frank had a comedy record ready to go but needed a B side and chose to sing "Waimea Lullaby" which became a surprise hit and eclipsed the comedy A side.
Led has recorded the song twice, the taropatch version is on our duet CD, "Kaleponi & Kalapana." He also created a version in drop C tuning for his "Kiho`alu - Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar" recording. The charming melody of the Patrick Downes composition fits well into taropatch tuning with enough variation to keep things interesting. I especially enjoy the high harmony part that Led plays during my turn at the verses.
Led and I are playing our usual instruments, a vintage Martin 000-16 long scale model for Led and a Kathy Wingert Model E for me. Our taropatch open G tuning is spelled D G D G B D from low pitch to high. The video and audio were captured on an iPhone 15 Pro Max sitting on the edge of the stage, sacrificing some video and audio quality in order to share the fun of a live performance. I used the Blackmagic Design IOS app and edited the video in DaVinci Resolve.
