As London & the UK swelters in record breaking heatwave temperatures (June temperatures set new records for 3 days running) it make perfect sense to share with you my favourite artisan Ice Cream shop; called Kabul Sheeryakt. In the Farsi language the words “Sheer Yakh” literally means Cold Milk, well, Milk Cold (Sheer = Milk and Yakh = Cold) and in Afghanistan it is made with very few ingredients and a lot of effort. Almost no air is incorporated since it is spun by hand, which gives it a very rich consistency, similar to gelato (but actually still more delicate than that). It is mesmerising watching the Ice Cream making Master as he transforms simple Milk into delicious silky smooth ice cream. This time consuming process of producing authentic "Home Made Style" Afghani ice cream is really a labour of love; as the method you see used does not use any form of machinary......so you know that it really is home made.
