How to Deal With Anxiety & Depression in Islam || Ustadh Muhammad Tim Humble . "Why do I feel so empty? Why is life so hard? Why do I feel like I'm drowning in anxiety and depression?" These are questions that millions of people ask themselves every single day. And the answers have been in the Quran for 1,400 years. In this powerful and deeply compassionate lecture, Ustadh Muhammad Tim Humble addresses the reality of mental health struggles through the lens of the Quran and Sunnah. He explains why we feel the way we do – because we expect this world to be Jannah, when it is actually a prison for the believer. He takes us through the story of Yaqub (AS), who went blind from grief over Yusuf (AS), yet he complained only to Allah. He reveals the cure: complain to Allah, know His names and attributes, and trust in His decree. In this video, you will learn: The Nature of This Dunya: This world is not Jannah. It is a place of trials and tests. Allah says: "Do you think you will enter Jannah while there has not yet come to you the suffering that came to the people before you?" (2:214). The Prophet ﷺ said: "This world is the prison of the believer and the paradise of the disbeliever." Expect difficulties – they are part of the test. The Story of Yaqub (AS) and Grief: Yaqub (AS) was so grief-stricken over Yusuf (AS) that he went blind. He said: "I only complain of my grief and my sorrow to Allah." He didn't complain to people – he complained to the only One who could solve his problem. His grief had physical effects, showing that mental health can affect physical health. Complain to Allah, Not People: People get tired of listening. They have their own problems. They cannot solve yours. But Allah loves for you to complain to Him. He wants you to be broken in front of Him – completely humble, submissive, and desperate. He is Al-Rauf, Al-Rahim, Al-Kareem, Al-Wadud. He never gets tired of hearing you. Know Allah's Names and Attributes: The more you know about Allah, the more you trust Him. Al-Qadir (the All-Powerful and Able) – nothing is impossible for Him. Ar-Razzaq (the Provider) – He owns everything. Al-Halim (the Forbearing) – He doesn't punish you immediately. Knowing Him lifts the burden. The Power of Qadar: Believing in divine decree (Qadar) brings peace. You leave your affairs to Allah. You recognize that He will always give you the best opportunity for you – even if it's not what you asked for. Sometimes poverty is better for you, sometimes sickness is better for you. The Quran is a Cure: "O people, there has come to you instruction from your Lord and a cure for what is in the hearts." (10:57). The Quran is the Shifa – the cure for anxiety, depression, and the whispers of Shaitan. The Prophet's ﷺ Advice: "Be keen for what will benefit you, and seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless." Never give up hope. Never think Allah can't help you or won't help you. That is thinking badly of Allah. This lecture is a lifeline for anyone struggling with their mental health. The answers are in the Quran. Turn to Allah. Complain to Him. Trust Him. And find peace.
