The mighy trees in the centre of the parks' twin lakes have been fighting a deadly insect nfestation for years. The only solution to the was to cut every infected tree down. I'm seeing the devestation for the first time in the session. The floating mass of sawdust you see here is all that's left of the woods that covered every inch of the island. Sad? Yes. Necessary? Unfortunately so. I'm particularly sad for the Ibis (a.k.a. bin chickens - the tall and white birds congregating at 27:36) who called the trees home - only a few weelks ago hundreds would nest in the forest. Their songs are sadder now. It's hard to watch the things you love disappear. this was recorded in Boorloo on Whadjuk Noongar land. the was stolen, not ceded.
