Prof Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed presents the Maulana Ubaidullah Sindhi, who converted from Sikhism to Islam when only 15 and became an Islamic scholar who graduated from the Deoband Seminary.
Ubaidullah Sindhi was associated with anti-imperialist movements and believed in the unity of the people of India of all religions and faiths. He was a proponent of Islamic Socialism and was associated with the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and was sympathetic to the Congress-led freedom movement.
He also served as Home Minister in a Provisional Indian Government set up in 1915 in Kabul, Afghanistan. The government was headed by Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh.
