PTI has postponed its planned Islamabad long march from September 27 to October 4, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announcing the new date after a meeting of the party’s political committee. CM Sohail Afridi said the PTI long march towards Islamabad will depart from Peshawar on October 4. He said TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas had been informed of the political committee’s unanimous decision. Earlier, PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Secretary Shaukat Yousafzai had rejected reports that the march was being postponed and said the party remained prepared for the September 27 protest. The development comes amid political tensions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said consultations had taken place regarding the possibility of imposing governor’s rule in the province. Meanwhile, major highways and routes leading to Islamabad have been closed or restricted ahead of the planned political demonstrations. The federal government has also authorised Rangers deployment in Islamabad and parts of Punjab for public-order arrangements. In another development, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reportedly sent another letter to TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, inviting him for talks.
