What would it look like to explore a black hole?
In this project, I built an interactive 3D Black Hole Simulation using Python, ModernGL, and Pyglet. The goal was to create a visual environment that brings some of the most fascinating features of black holes to life.
The simulation includes:
Gravitational Lensing: A visual representation of how light bends around a massive object.
Accretion Disk: A rotating disk of particles surrounding the black hole.
Photon Rings: Visual elements representing the region around a black hole where light can orbit.
3D Camera Controls: Move freely around the environment and explore the scene.
Interactive Controls: Adjust simulation parameters and explore different visual settings.
Deep-Space Environment: A background filled with stars, a galaxy panorama, and other visual elements.
Note on the Physics
This project is primarily a visual simulation, not a fully physics-based model of a black hole. While it incorporates concepts such as the Schwarzschild radius and orbital motion, its gravitational lensing is a visual approximation rather than a numerical solution of Einstein's field equations.
Technologies Used
Python
ModernGL
Pyglet
NumPy
This project was also an opportunity to explore 3D graphics programming, learn more about black hole physics, and experiment with translating scientific concepts into interactive visual experiences.
This is only the beginning. In the future, I hope to develop a more physically accurate simulation with improved gravitational modelling and rendering.
Thanks for watching!
