Purim Spiel 2024 / פורים שפיל 2024 / Fête de Pourim 2024

The holiday of Purim: It is Goofy - Mysterious - Crazy. Some of our rabbis say that at the end of days, all the holidays will be cancelled except for Purim.  Other rabbis point out that יום הכיפורים (the yearly day of fasting, prayer and repentance) is usually translated as “Yom Kippur - The Day of Atonement.” But it can also be translated as “The Day because of Purim” or “The Day like Purim.”   The commandment to observe Purim is straight from the Bible itself. There are accounts of the Fighters of the Jewish Underground during the Second World War. They also celebrated Purim, sometimes in tears.  This year, on October 7, we celebrated the holiday Simchat Torah (The Joy of the Torah) at the same time as rockets were exploding over Jerusalem. As we do every year, we danced with the scrolls of the Torah and we read the Torah’s last section – which is named וזות הברכה (This is the Blessing). None of us can decide the situation that surrounds us on our holidays. But exactly because of that situation, we invite you to celebrate Purim and we invite you to watch our video of the Purim Spiel – Purim Story – Scroll of Esther – Purim Comic Opera 2024.
