In this video we visit Parafield, a station in Adelaide's northern suburbs that smells like pies. Situated along the Gawler line here we see some Adelaide Metro 3000 Class railcars arrive and depart the station, including one that was still (mostly) wearing the yellow Adelaide Metro livery.
Parafield opened in 1928 to serve Parafield Airport; which was Adelaide's main airport until 1955. Today it's one of the more modern stations on the Gawler line; with platform 2 having been rebuilt in 2008, and platform 1 rebuilt in 2014.
This video represents a typical everyday scene along the Gawler line, however it will soon change completely. The Gawler line is currently undergoing a $715 million electrification project; which will see the 3000 Class diesels replaced with modern 4000 Class EMU's as seen on the Seaford and Tonsley line. It's currently expected that the project will be completed in late 2021.
This is also my last video to be uploaded along the Gawler line before electrification works began.
Date: June 2019.
