The Healing Power of Creativity

In this inspiring episode of The CORE Growth Show, Gary Wallace is joined by artist, Heather Green, the creative force behind Love of the Lough. Heather shares the deeply personal journey that led her back to creativity after experiencing an intense period of grief and loss. Heather describes how walking along Belfast Lough became a place of healing, reflection and ultimately transformation. What began with walking, photography and art soon developed into poetry, storytelling and writing. Heather opens up about her experience of dyslexia, struggling at school and growing up believing she wasn't academic, while one inspirational art teacher helped her feel seen and encouraged her creativity. Now, at 61, Heather is embracing the parts of herself she once held back and using creativity to help others do the same. Gary and Heather explore how art, writing, storytelling and play can give children and young people another way to express thoughts and emotions that they may struggle to communicate face to face. Heather also shares how she uses creativity within her family support work, particularly with young people who have experienced trauma. The conversation also looks at how childhood has changed, from outdoor play and imagination to increased screen time, comparison and pressure, and why giving children space to explore, create, take appropriate risks and simply have fun is so important. Heather shares simple ways anyone can become more creative, including journaling, photography, noticing the world around you, reconnecting with nature and simply allowing yourself to start without worrying about being "good" at it. Heather also talks about her books, including _The Duck, the Limpet and the Crab_, created from a story developed with her young grandson, and her collection _Art and Poetry by Heather Green_. She also shares details of her fantasy writing project and her upcoming TEDx appearance.
